How GPA is Calculated
Your semester GPA is the sum of (grade points × credits) for all courses, divided by total credits attempted.
Formula: GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ Credit Hours
For example, an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course contributes 12 quality points. A B+ (3.3) in a 4-credit course contributes 13.2. Add them up and divide by total credits.

What is a good semester GPA?
A GPA of 3.5 or above is generally considered excellent and often qualifies for Dean's List honours. A GPA above 3.0 is considered good standing at most universities. Below 2.0 may put you on academic probation.
Does semester GPA affect cumulative GPA?
Yes. Your cumulative GPA is the weighted average of all semester GPAs, weighted by credits taken each semester. A strong semester will pull your cumulative GPA up; a weak one will pull it down. Use our CGPA Calculator to track the combined effect.
Can I include pass/fail courses?
Pass/Fail courses typically don't count toward GPA at most institutions — leave them out of this calculator. Only include graded courses that contribute to your GPA.
How do I calculate GPA with repeated courses?
Policies vary by institution. Some universities replace the old grade, others average both attempts. Check your academic handbook, then use only the grade(s) your school counts.
