How the required marks formula works

Required marks = Target total marks − Marks already earned. If you need 65% overall on a 500-mark exam series and have scored 198 of 300 across three papers, you need (0.65 × 500) − 198 = 127 out of 200 in remaining papers — a 63.5% average.

What if I have already failed one subject?

In most board exams you must pass each subject individually — aggregate percentage alone is not enough. A subject fail means a supplementary or repeat exam regardless of your overall marks. Check your specific board's rules.

How do I account for practical marks already given?

Enter practical marks as a completed component with marks earned and max marks. The calculator deducts those from your secured total and adjusts the target for remaining theory papers accordingly.

What percentage gives First Division?

In the Indian board system, First Division is typically 60%+ aggregate. Second Division is 45–59%, and Pass is 33–44%. Some state boards use 50% as the First Division cutoff — check your board's classification criteria.

Can I use this for university exams with internal marks?
